Moyale Barracks striker Gastin Simkonda, who is on the brink of completing a loan move to Costal do Sol of Mozambique, has attracted interest in South Africa.

Football agent Josy Mathang confirmed on Monday that Simkonda is wanted for trials by a top South African team that was likely to offer him a deal as they have been tracking him.

“I talked to Gastin [Simkonda] and he says he is moving to a Mozambican team. It is a top team that wants him here [South Africa], but it is premature to reveal its name. Even if he goes to Mozambique, we will still be able to buy him from there. There is not much money in Mozambique compared to South Africa,” said Mathang.

But the striker on Tuesday denied talking to Mathang who is looking for contacts of the broker of the Mozambique deal so that they should negotiate a buy-out in the event of the player impressing during the trials.

The Moyale forward, who had unsuccessful trials at Bloemfontein Celtic in South Africa last year, returned with the Flames from Tanzania with an injury and will be out for two weeks.

Moyale general secretary Major Grey Maluwa could not confirm the interest of the South African agent, but said talks with Costal do Sol were at an advanced stage.

“Yes, Gastin may be leaving soon, but negotiations are still in progress with top management with no offers on the table yet,” Maluwa said through e-mail.
