Muslims who have done outstanding work in society deemed to be within the tenets of the faith are to be recognised and awarded for their manners at an event to take place early next year.

Organisers of the event, Classic Events, have invited South African Muslim singer Zain Bhikha to perform in Blantyre and Lilongwe in January during a fundraising event for the 2015 Malawi Muslim Awards.

Classic Events communications manager Bashir Amin told On the Arts that the first show will take place at Robin’s Park in Blantyre on January 17 while in Lilongwe, Zain Bhikha will perform at Lilongwe Golf Club the next day.

“This time we want to make the awards better, that is why we have intensified our fundraising activities by inviting Zain Bhikha. So far, I can inform to the Muslim community and the general public that official communication with Zain Bhikha have been made, and the artist is ready to perform in Malawi on the said dates. As of now, we are only working on minor details to meet the requirements the artist has requested us so that we should have a perfect event,” said Amin.

Associated with other Muslim musicians including Yusuf Islam and Dawud Wharusby, Bhikha has collaborated on albums and also released several Islamic solo albums.

And this year, Zain is celebrating 20 years of his career.

He has travelled to UK, USA, and Canada, France and other European and Asian countries. However, it will be the first time for the artist to visit and perform in Malawi.

“We are sure that his coming will add more status towards the coming Malawi Muslim Awards. We know that people will enjoy his present as he will be perfuming in Malawi,” said Amin.

Apart from the fundraising concert, Amin said the group have also planned to have a fundraising dinner a day before the music concert.
