Malawian musicians under South African Based Malawian Artists (Sabma) are working on establishing a recording studio, aimed at promoting Malawi music in the rainbow nation.

Sabma was established last year and saw the election of an executive committee led by Nyaradzai Chitheka, formerly of Chitheka Family.

“There are several achievements from last year including the election of an executive board, of which I am chairperson. So far, we have managed to reach out to the artists and we are still on a campaign of reaching more people so that we work together.

“Among our 2014 plans is that we are working on establishing a studio which all artists based here and those back home can come to record.

We are also working to have Sabma registered and establishing an office,” explained Chitheka.

She added that the grouping is working at marketing the music for the registered members, who number over 30.

“Sabma also plans to be holding shows for locally based artists both gospel and secular as part of raising funds for the studio equipment. But for now we have other studios affiliated to us which are helping much,” she said.
