The Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) has appointed Griffin Saenda as Queens technical director ahead of engagement of coaches for the senior and junior national netball teams.

NAM president Rosy Chinunda confirmed yesterday that Saenda, who was head coach when the Queens finished second during the African Netball Championships which Malawi hosted last June is not among those earmarked for the coaching jobs.

Chinunda, however, said as technical director, Saenda will oversee coaches for the national teams.

“We have so much respect for him and we felt it would be better if he becomes a technical director,” she said.

The NAM boss told The Nation recently that it was not automatic that Saenda and Mary Waya would be retained as head coach and deputy trainer for the Queens respectively.

Saenda insisted that he would only comment on the matter after receiving official communication from NAM.

From six yet-to-be-named tacticians, NAM is expected to name two for the Queens and another pair for the Under-21 while the remaining pair might be considered for the Under-20 squad.

The Queens will go into camp early February to prepare for the July Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland whereas the Under 21 squad will be preparing for the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (Anoca) Games in Botswana in September.

The Under-20 national team will represent the country at the Zone VI Championships in Zimbabwe in November.
