Safety key in hospitality industry

The hospitality industry in Malawi must consider security and safety of customers, guarding them against natural and artificial hazards.

Malawi Defence Force (MDF) Marine Unit Battalion Second in Command Major Genesis Mathyola Munlo said this on Saturday at a graduation ceremony for Sunbird Tourism Limited’s 17 divers and lifesavers at Nkopola Lodge in the lakeshore district of Mangochi. 

Munlo said the training equipped participants with techniques in swimming, lifesaving, fire-fighting, first aid and basic diving skills such as donning of diving equipment, snorkelling, mask clearing, surface and underwater search up to a depth of 10 metres. 

Fanny Chipwatali, the only female participant, said the group responded positively to the demands of the training.

Sunbird head of human resources and training Edward Chunga said Sunbird has been engaging MDF since 2007.
