Adam Sailesi once again rose to the occasion to beat 121 fellow golfers at Lilongwe Golf Club (LGC) to earn Airtel Malawi Open Golf Championship crown.

The championship is also used to seed top players in the country. Sailes’s win means he is Malawi’s top-most golfer.

The two-day golf was played in stroke play format and Sailesi had a score of 147 gross. He was ahead of Victor Kachepatsonga, who grossed 148 and LGC chairperson Justin Mkandawire, who was third with a 156 gross.

In his victory speech, Sailesi thanked the sponsors for what he described as a great tournament.

Prizes ranged from Samsung Galaxy S5 to golf bags and golf clubs.

Airtel Mlawi managing director Heiko Schlittke said he was impressed with the crop of golfers that participated in the event.

“It has been exciting with so much quality that has depicted the mix of experience and skills that have been showcased on the golf course. As Airtel, we appreciate you all for making this tournament yet a success,” said Schlittke.

He said golf accords Airtel a platform to interact with its customers and update them on new services and products.

“Airtel is committed to bringing more and more modern customer-centred products and services that are not only innovative, but also affordable. Our objective as a brand is to grow and mature with you. We are here to provide solutions and make your professional, social and economic and personal lifestyle better in this digital era,” said the Airtel MD.
