Salima MP hails community radio
Salima Central member of Parliament (MP) Felix Jumbe (Malawi Congress Party-MCP) has applauded the newly-commissioned Love FM community radio station for advocating citizen participation in development initiatives.
Speaking in an interview yesterday, Jumbe said he was impressed with how the radio station, broadcasting on 104.5FM, has engaged local residents in participatory platforms.
He said he was optimistic that the radio station would not only shape the future of the district in development, but also continue to strengthen community-based structures.
“I am impressed with how the station has performed in the past two months it has been on air and I hope this will continue.
“We have for a long time been denied such an opportunity and I was surprised that despite being a business hub, the district had no [community] radio station,” Jumbe said.
In his remarks, Salima district information officer Watson Maingo called on journalists at the station to be professional by refraining from broadcasting content which can incite hatred and violence.
Love FM station manager Linda Kantwela promised continued professionalism and balanced content to promote citizen participation in the district. n
