Reggae artist Sally Nyundo has been invited to perform in Zambia over the long Easter weekend next month.

Both the organisers and the artist have confirmed, saying all is set for Sally’s participation, whose performance marks Malawi’s debut appearance at the Siavonga Music Festival.

The Siavonga Music Festival is Zambia’s only international music event, showcasing some of Zambia’s top artists performing to an audience of over 3 000 people. It falls on the Easter weekend, and this year it will be held on the sandy shores of Lake Kariba in Siavonga.

“The ethos of this unique festival is first and foremost to join together and celebrate the talents within our great country. 2014 also sees us joining hands with a number of artists from Zimbabwe, Malawi, Namibia and South Africa and all the way from Norway. Join us as we stand side by side, brother, sister, friend and family,” reads information about the festival on www.siavongafest.com.

The website also lists down Sally as one of the artists making up the 2014 line up as the festival clocks three years.

“The Siavonga Music Festival is proud to present a small portion of our funky, edgy, unbelievably talented 2014 line-up. We have pulled out the stops to bring you choice acts from home, most of our neighbouring territories, and as far away as Europe.

“There is only one festival in Zambia where so much talent pulls together for your pleasure. These guys Pompi, Cactus Agony, Mumba Yachi, Evicted, Admiral P and Malawi’s Sally Nyundo are ready to rock your world,” it reads.

Sally said he is excited not only because he is the first Malawian artist to perform at the festival but because he is going to a place that is more like home.

“I am very excited to perform in Zambia because they speak Nyanja which is like Chichewa and obviously they get what my songs are talking about and represent,” he said in an interview.
