Sand Music Festival will host its second fashion show when it returns on the beaches of Sunbird Livingstonia Beach in Salima from October 31 to November 2.

Nine local and one Zambian top fashion designers will rock the runway with their creations.

The theme this year is Love Local as the aim is to continue providing exposure to local designers, according to one of the fashion show’s organisers, Thembi Zimba.

“Another objective it to bring the designers closer to the local market. All our designers from last year are returning with an additional of six more to make a total of 10 designers, including Zambia’s fast rising designer, KasondeNkule.

“Some of the designers making a first at Sand Music Festival are already making a name in the fashion industry, such as Mafrika while others are completely new like Liberty designs based in Blantyre.

“The fashion show will get its own platform set on the beach of Lake Malawi with designers showcasing at least 10 outfits, literally making at least 100 outfits on show. We plan to make this year’s fashion show more rewarding to the designers and more remarkable to the audience,” explained Zimba, one of the few celebrated Malawian models.

As Sand Music Festival is an event that brings together different artists, designers have the opportunity to dress some of the performing artists, according to Zimba.

“This further provides more exposure to the local designer as well as enhancing the fusion of Malawian art through fashion and performance artists. We have a team of local models that are more than excited to travel to Salima and rock the ramp in wonderful designs,” she said.

The local designers are Arnold Gama of Arnol Designs, Christian Ndovie of Liberty Designs, Godfrey Kambewa of I Design Tavari, Purity Kasambara of Adamz Needle, Constance Kankhulungo of Chisomo Designs, Sadia Mustafa of Mafrika, Nells secret possessions by Nelly Bringloe, TJ Chirwa by Home Grown and Maureen Milanzi of Momilla designs.
