The Limbe Second Grade Magistrate’s Court has given a suspended sentence to Harmony Private Primary School director who was convicted of misappropriating K169 000 meant for students’ Primary School Leaving Certificate (PSLC) examination fees last year.

While learners were preparing for examinations, it was discovered that Alfred Kapito, 45, did not pay the money to the Malawi National Examinations Board (Maneb).

He has been handed the non-custodial sentence on condition that he will teach at the school free of charge for a year.

Speaking in an interview, Limbe Police Station spokesperson Widson Nhlane said Kapito has paid back the money but has been ordered to pay for 2019 PSLC students’ identity cards. He said if the convict violates the court’s conditions, parents should report him to the court or police.

Kapito comes from John Village in Traditional Authority Kadewere in Chiradzulu District.
