Christian Organisation of Malawi (Scom) wing at Kamuzu Barracks Secondary School in Lilongwe at the weekend cheered juvenile prison inmates in Lilongwe.

The students also donated 10 cartons of laundry soap and 100 kg maize flour.

Secretary of the group Cynthia Ndoya reminded the prisoners that there is a hand of God which saves and, as such, they should not lose hope.

Prisoners need our support

“Being here does not mean you are condemned, we should always live with faith because God is with us. One day, we will be out of this prison and start a new life,” she said.

Ndoya advised the prisoners to always believe, especially this time when they are behind bars and do not know God’s plans.

Scom chairperson Jobdon Simbeye said the aim of the visit was to cheer and spend some time with the prisoners so that they should know that they have not been abandoned.

“We were directed by God to come here. We ask you to love one another and stop thinking that you are condemned just because you are behind bars,” he said.

Prison chaplain Albert Nkhoma commended the group for the prayers and the donation.

“Your presence has given us hope that we are not alone. We hope this is not your last time to come here,” he said.

The function started with songs of worship and praise which were led by some of the inmates. n
