Scrutinise manifesto of leaders—Nice
The National Initiative for Civic Education (Nice) Trust in Mangochi has called on voters to scrutinise manifestos of parliamentary aspirants as May 20 Tripartite Elections draw closer.
Nice Trust district civic education officer for Mangochi, Turner Banda, made the appeal on Tuesday when his organisation conducted a parliamentary aspirant’s debate for Mangochi Central Constituency at Mangochi Secondary School ground.
Banda said political debates accord the electorate an opportunity to hear manifestos from their aspirants and help them make informed choice.
“Malawi deserves credible leaders. This can be achieved if the electorate chooses development oriented and visionary leaders. It is an uphill task to school the electorate to know qualities of such leaders, hence, it remains Nice’s aim to embark on various initiatives of which debate proved to be one of them,” said Banda.
He challenged aspiring members of Parliament to tell the electorate their plans to develop their constituencies should they be voted into power.
Group Village Headman Mapira thanked Nice for conducting the debate, saying the electorate would now vote for visionary leaders.
Out of the eight shadow MPs contesting for the constituency, two did not attend the debate.
