A meeting organised by the National Initiative for Civic Education (Nice) Mulanje district office on Sunday to sensitise communities on the roles and functions of councillors, members of Parliament (MPs), chiefs and the President turned into a debate on security lapse in the country.

During the meeting held at Malilima Primary School in Traditional Authority (T/A) Njema’s area, the issue of insecurity came following the recent murder by unknown people of an albino woman. The assailants removed her body parts, notably legs and arms.

Group Village Head Makokola expressed worry that the incident has instilled fear among people in the area.

Councillor for Muloza Ward, Jackson Mwela, told the gathering that authorities were asked for a police unit, but they said that the premises was not complete.

However, he called on the community to be vigilant, saying people behind the murders might working with some people in the area.

Mulanje Nice district civic education officer Twambilire Mwabungulu called for collective effort and unity of purpose in order to curb insecurity in the area.

Mulanje Police Station spokesperson James Kadadzera said no arrests have been made, but added that police have intensified investigations to find the woman’s killers.
