Seek spiritual guidance for elections—Priest

Listen to this article

Malawians should seek the guidance of the holy spirit to discern the qualities of good leaders ahead of the May 20 Tripartite Elections, head of Phalula Parish Father Clemence Pindurani has said.

Pindurani said this during holy mass he celebrated at St Peter’s Catholic Church in Balaka recently.

He said unless voters are guided by the holy spirit, they will end up choosing bad leaders who will plunge the country into social, political and economic misery.

“Unless you are spiritually enlightened, you will not be able to distinguish between good and bad leaders. Unless you are spiritually enlightened, you are bound to choose leaders based on ethnicity, region and tribe. Pray now that the holy spirit should guide you to discern qualities of good leaders,” said Pindurani.

He said good leaders can play a key role in achieving the aspirations of all Malawians irrespective of region, tribe, ethnicity and political affiliations.

“As we draw closer to the elections, let us pray that the holy spirit should guide us to choose leaders who will bring glory to God and not shame. We also need spiritual enlightenment if we are to prevent or contain politically-motivated violence in this country,” said the priest.
