The Electoral Commission (EC) has urged Multiparty Liaison Committees from Thyolo, Mulanje and Luchenza to lead in sensitising people to some operational changes in their areas to ensure smooth tripartite elections in 2014.
Commissioner responsible for electoral processes the Reverend Emmanuel Chimkwita Phiri was speaking at a meeting with the committees in Luchenza, Thyolo, on Monday.
He said party officials should clarify issues to avoid misconceptions that may disrupt the electoral processes.
“We know Luchenza Commercial Secondary School in Chonde area serves as a centre for Mulanje South West Constituency.
“Because we shall be conducting three elections at the same time, this means issues to do with Local Government Elections for this centre will be administered at Luchenza Municipal Council,” he said.
Chimkwita Phiri asked civil society organisations to educate the masses on the changes.
“For the members of the civil society organisations [CSOs], we are also optimistic that you will as usual complement our efforts to inform and sensitise people in these areas and beyond,” he said.
Commissioner Nancy Tembo emphasised the need for councils, CSOs traditional and party leaders to work together in sensitising people to tripartite elections.
The meeting was also attended by deputy chief elections officer Harris Potani; commissioners Dr. Wellington Nakanga and the Reverend Maxwell Mezuwa Banda.
