Now that I have given you my personal experience, let me come to the discussion why most couples or marriages are failing to survive.

God is the initiator of spiritual marriage and family. From Genesis to Revelation, God talks about marriage and family. Genesis2:18. The first marriage was officiated between Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Gen2:23-24; Matthew 19:5-6. God himself made the institution of marriage, meaning that God also made laws to govern his institution of marriage which are available in the Bible.

The book of Hosea 4:6 reads; “My people are perishing because of lack of knowledge”, says the Lord of hosts.

Here are some of the reasons marriages are breaking up:

1.      Couples enter into marriage designed by God without having enough knowledge to guide them in this new life-long journey. More time and resources are spent on wedding arrangements than the marriage itself. Most of the marriages that have survived do so on a trial and error basis. Others are marriages of convenience.

Biblical lessons and seminars are required for those about to enter marriage (by these I mean intensive and thorough pre marital counselling) as well as for those already in marriage.

Functions done prior to the wedding ceremony should be closely monitored and the subject matter taught at these functions should be thoroughly checked. Currently, functions like bridal showers and send offs have just become a fashion; their intended purpose is not met.

2.         The roles of husband and wife in marriage are not properly defined. The husband is unable to love his wife unconditionally nor is the wife able to submit to her husband.
