Setback on TNM uniforms

Super League of Malawi (Sulom) teams marvelled as TNM unveiled the new top-class Puma kits for the 2012/2013 on Tuesday.

But they will be disappointed to learn that, just like was the case in the past six years, the two sets of uniform to be given to each team has 16 pairs of jerseys each, two short of the required 18.

This means teams will continue having two substitutes wearing different colours.

Sulom general secretary Williams Banda said their order was to get uniforms with 18 jerseys, but the supplier claims Puma only supply 16 jerseys per set.

“We have taken him to task and we are working on ensuring that we have the remaining two jerseys for each set before the start of the league on Saturday,” said Banda. He could not disclose the name of the supplier.

FAM commercial manager Casper Jangale refuted claims that Puma only supplies 16 jerseys per set.

“Like for the Flames, Puma is able to supply a uniform with 23 jerseys. In fact, they can supply you with any figure you want. They do not have a limit,” said Jangale.

Nevertheless, Blantyre United coach Elijah Kananji said the kit is of high quality.

“The material is strong and they are light. They really look more beautiful than the ones we have been getting in the past,” said Kananji.

Tigers technical adviser Robin Alufandika said: “Puma is now a leading sports brand in Africa and even our national team is wearing Puma, so that puts us at par with the best teams. But the only setback is the shortage of the jerseys. We need to look professional, having other players wearing different colours does not reflect well.”
