Seven Malawians will be involved in the CAF Confederation Cup action in Botswana this Saturday—three as players and the rest officiating personnel.

Zomba referee Dennis Nguluwe, fourth official Duncan Lengani, assistant referees Kelvin Ngolanga and Clement Kanduku will handle the cup’s preliminary round game between hosts Gaborone United and Liga Maculmana.

Maculmana are home to Malawians Joseph Kamwendo, Simplex Nthala and Zicco Mkanda. On Tuesday, Nguluwe said he was unmoved by the coincidence. The referees are expected to leave for Gaborone tomorrow (Friday).

“During the game, I will treat them just like any other player on the pitch. Professionalism will come first. I will be guided by the Laws of the Game,” said Nguluwe.

FAM referees director Maxwell Mtonga released to Nation Online the list of referees on the Confederation of African Football (CAF) assignments, including the Champions League, this year.

On Sunday, other Malawians — referee Anthony Rafael, his assistants Jones Chimeza, Victor Nkhata and fourth official, a Makuwira, will take charge of the Champions League game between Zanaco and Mbabane Swallows from Swaziland in Lusaka.
