Ironically, FMB has been sponsoring the Mulanje Mission Hospital Charity Golf since it was introduced seven years ago to raise funds towards helping the hospital which also serves the community.

Country Club Limbe golf captain Chapusa Phiri and Shadreck Khunga’s team of Kingfisher Insurance posted 42 points to settle for second position while Britam Insurance-sponsored team of Grant Mwenechanya and Charles Mukiwa finished third with 39 points.

Mukiwa also won nearest to the pin accolade while Neel McTavish hit the longest drive.

Convener of the tournament, Tony Chiwaya, commended the golfers for sparing their time to assist the hospital in the charity cause.

In his remarks, principal medical officer Dr. Arie Glas said the hospital wants to buy a modern digital X-ray machine valued at K75 million.

“This has been a nice event. We would like to buy a digital X-ray machine to replace the one we are using which is very old,” he said.

Glas also commended the organising committee of the charity golf for the initiative which has helped the hospital address some of the problems citing oxygen concentrators and refurbishment of children wards.
