With just a week before the end of the first semester, Mzuzu University (Mzuni) has faced another financial embarrassment as sheriffs have impounded the school’s bus for allegedly failing to pay a former employee about K7 million.

Mzuni senior assistant registrar (academic) Yonam Ngwira on Thursday said the employee, Daurice Nyirongo, took Mzuni to court after she was allegedly fired for absconding work.

“There was a case that entered default judgement regarding an employee who absconded work and went to the [United] States [of America] for school and the university had her contract terminated,” he said.

According to Mzuzu High Court Registrar Dick Sankhulani, the recent seizure warrant came from the court in Blantyre where the employee lodged her complaint against the university.—george singini, Staff Reporter
