They were arrested and charged with arson, contrary to Section 337 of the Penal Code.

In mitigation, the brothers asked for court’s leniency arguing they are young and would only waste away if thrown into jail. However, their sentence was maintained.

Northern Region Police spokesperson Peter Kalaya said property lost in the fire is worth K4 million. Among the items lost were fertiliser, maize , soya beans, furniture and clothes.

The convicts come from from Jaliya Chiwone Village, Traditional Authority Mtwalo in the district. n
