Siege in Special Brew National Pool finals

Siege on Sunday became the first team to sail through to K3 million Carlsberg Special Brew Championship national finals.

The Central Region Pool League (CRPL) leaders beat Oriental A 3-0 in the regional finals played at Ls Burg on Sunday to book a place at the grand finals set for October 29 in Mangochi.

Eastern and Southern regions will hold their qualifiers on August 26 and September 10 respectively while Northern Region finals will be played on October 1 in Mzuzu.

Siege earned the victory through Chikondi Domoya, Chifundo Chiwaya and Austin Katemecha, who outclassed Nuru Bharotawala,William Nyirenda and Christopher Kambalame respectively.

Siege captain Sheriff Khisimisi said the victory is a true reflection of their supremacy in the region.

“This has really showed why we are league leaders. We are the best team. We are looking forward to successfully represent the region at the final,” he said.

To reach the finals, Seige booted out Oriental B 3-1, while Oriental A ousted Queens Park 3-2.

In a third-place battle, Oriental B stunned Queens Park 3-0.

As runners-up, Oriental A received K70 000 while Oriental B, got K50 000 on third position.

Queens Park who finished fourth, received K30 000.

Malawi Pool Association (Mapa) chairperson Mathews Munthali, who watched the finals, was satisfied with the way CRPL run the qualifiers.

“They registered highest number of teams and they have managed to control them and maintained discipline, which is in line with sponsors (Carlsberg) demands,” said Munthali..

Central Region tournament director Brutus Ndlovu advised Siege to train hard.
