Signs two-year deal with Chinese club
Malawi women football star Tabitha Chawinga has sealed a two-year deal with Chinese elite league side Jiangsu Sunning after parting ways with the now-relegated Swedish league side Kvarnsveden IK.
The national team prolific forward told The Nation in an interview yesterday that she will join the Chinese club in January 2018.
“I have now taken all my belongings from Sweden as I return home to wait for my move to China.
“I will be moving to Jiangsu Sunning in January. I thank the Almighty for making things easy for me during my three-year stint in Sweden,” she said.
Chawinga has chosen to sign for Sunning after snubbing an offer from a French top league side PSG.
At present, Kvarnsveden IK will be banking on Tabitha’s younger sister Temwa in the Swedish lower league.
Tabitha joined Kvarnsveden IK in 2014 from Lilongwe-based side DD Sunshine and became an instant hit by winning the top scorer award and helping them to earn promotion into the top-flight league.
