Silver’s ambitious project set to start this month

National football club champions Silver Strikers have said their multi-million kwacha ambitious project aimed at making the team self-sustainable is set to roll into life later this month.

The club’s chairperson McDonald Mafuta-Mwale said the project will include installation of electronic gates, CCTV and floodlights at the stadium, construction of a bar, restaurant, kitchen, lounge, offices and a shop.

“This is a big project and we hope we can complete it to the book, it will be in phases and the first one will be installing the electronic gates which should start any time soon.

“Already some people have travelled to South Africa to learn how it works and as soon as they come, we’ll have a trial exercise which should be in the next two to three weeks, but the target is to have it fully-functional by June this year,” said Mafuta-Mwale.

He explained that the shop will be used to sell the club’s merchandise and other necessities.

However, the Silver boss could not say how much the project will cost, saying it is being handled by the sponsor Reserve Bank of Malawi.

He said it is with that in mind that the Bankers are not in a hurry to take part in the continental CAF Champions League.

“As soon as the project is on track then we might consider joining the CAF tournament,” he said.
