Mafuta Mwale: It is a big project

Silver Strikers FC has set about its multimillion kwacha ambitious project aimed at making the club self-sustainable.

The club’s chairperson McDonald Mafuta-Mwale yesterday said they have set the ball rolling with the renovations of the stadium, in particular the stadium perimetre fence, wash rooms and dressing rooms.

“Architects have also started working on the designs and thereafter, engineers from South Africa will start working on electronic gates and we’ll also replace the chairs,” said Mafuta-Mwale.

He, however, kept a tight lid on the estimated costs of the project that will also include installation of CCTV cameras and floodlights, construction of a bar, restaurant, kitchen, lounge, offices and a shop.

“We do not reveal costs. It is a project that is being done by our sponsors Reserve Bank of Malawi.

“This is a big project and we hope we can complete it to the book, as we said it will be in phases,” he said.

He said the shop will be used to sell the club’s merchandise and other necessities.

He said it is with that in mind that the Bankers are not in a hurry to take part in the continental CAF Champions League.

“As soon as the project is on track, then we might consider joining the CAF tournament,” he said.
