Silver Strikers will this afternoon engage Dwangwa United at Chitowe Stadium in their quest to return to the top of the TNM Super League..

Should the bankers win, they will be at the summit of the 16-team table with 26 points from 12 games and they will consolidate the position once the current leaders Blue Eagles lose or draw their encounter against Mafco at the same venue tomorrow.

Eagles have 25 points from 11 games whereas Mafco are third on the table with 22 points from 12 games.

“This is a must-win game for us if we are to return to the top,” said Silver coach Lovemore Fazili. “We have left no stone unturned in a bid to beat Dwangwa so as to maintain a winning streak.”

The bankers are coming from a 3-1 victory over Red Lions, who face Mzuzu University (Mzuni) FC at Zomba Community Centre ground this afternoon.

Nevertheless, it is very unlikely that Dwangwa United, who are 14th on the ladder with six points from 11 matches, will allow Silver fulfill their wishes because the Nkhotakota-based side is also desperately looking for a second win of the season.

At present, it is not clear how prepared Dwangwa are for the showdown as their coach McDonald Mtetemera has been suspended following a fall-out between him and his charges. Mtetremera’s assistant Bentley Mhango is in charge of the team, but could not be reached for comment yesterday.

In another gruelling Super League encounter tomorrow Wizards will host revitalised Be Forward Wanderers at Kamuzu Stadium.

The Nomads will be buoyed by three back-to-back league victories over Red Lions, Max Bullets and Azam Tigers.

Wanderers are currently ninth on the log table with 17 points from nine games. n
