TNM Super League giants Silver Strikers and Nyasa Big Bullets have started preparations for 2019 Confederation of African Footbal (CAF) competitions.

The People’s Team who are eyeing CAF Champions League, say they will beef up their squad with Reserve team players while Silver Strikers, who will take part in the CAF Confederations Cup, will concetrate on building confidence of the current squad.

Bullets chief executive officer (CEO) Fleetwood Haiya said their decision would not only help them save on expenditure in terms of buying players from fellow TNM Super League outfits, but also motivate players in their Reserve side.

Their Reserve side has been outstanding in the Chitetezo Mbaula Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) League Premier Division where they lead the log table.

“I would say we are technically ready to compete in the CAF Champions League. However, there is still a need to beef up the squad and we will look nowhere for such talent than our Reserve side, which has extraordinary talent. We will only hunt outside our fold only when we feel it is necessary,” he said.

But Silver coach Young Chimodzi yesterday said the Central Bankers will not beef-up their squad ahead of the international competition because the aim of their participation is to expose their current players.

“We have talented players that came through our youth development systems and, as they are now getting matured, we need to help them expose and improve their skills on the international stage. We have enough talent for CAF Confederations Cup,” he said.

Currently, unbeaten Bullets lead the 16-team TNM Super League with 49 points from 21 games.

Silver are on second position six points below the leaders from the same number of matches played this far. n
