Silver chides Sulom for ‘disorder’
Super League defending champions Silver Strikers have said the flagship league governing body has no rules.
The Bankers’ chairperson Dr. McDonald Mafuta-Mwale said this in the wake of the move by the Super League of Malawi (Sulom) to block them from processing transfer deals of Big Bullets midfield maestro Chimango Kayira and Civo United defender John Lanjesi.
Silver also faults Sulom on Tony Chitsulo’s clearance to join Mighty Wanderers, allegedly without their consent.
“In as far as we are concerned, the league has no rules, that is why you have a situation where one team is blocked from registering new players while others are allowed to use players from other teams illegally,” said Mafuta-Mwale.
He also said his club will not pursue Chimango’s transfer.
“Considering the current situation, I do not think we have intentions to proceed with the move. We are not going to sign him,” said Mafuta-Mwale.
Reacting to Mafuta-Mwale’s comments, Sulom general secretary Williams Banda said: “I believe those were kicks of a dying horse. With due respect, I need just to encourage him [Silver chairperson] to read and understand the existing rules so that he appreciates that rules are there. Maybe that is why he [Mafuta-Mwale] flouted them. It is clear that he did not understand them and he can be forgiven for that,” said Banda.
Local football commentators, Charles Nyirenda and Felix Sapao, recently said the issue of transfers has become free-for-all and said both clubs and the league are to blame for the situation.
