Chimodzi was recently named as the bankers’ head coach and has been drilling the team for the past two weeks, but he told The Nation on Wednesday that he is not working as a head coach.

“We are yet to sit down to thoroughly discuss my role. However, I will only sign a contract at Silver if they rope me as a technical adviser. I have my own reasons for not accepting the head coach position,” he said.

According to Chimodzi, they failed to discuss the matter with the team last weekend as initially planned because some executive members of the club were not available.

Nevertheless, Kalonga wondered how Chimodzi would long for a technical advisory role when he has already started working as head coach.

“Maybe he said that just because he was talking to the press. But facts on the ground speak volumes about his role. I do not know if a technical adviser organises line-ups, discusses player transfers and makes game plans,” Kalonga said.

“For your information, he is the one who will personally be in charge of the team in today’s (yesterday) training match against Kamuzu Barracks. Maybe he prefers the adviser title because it probably demands more perks. But as far as I know, Chimodzi is our head coach.”

In spite of that, Kalonga said before Chimodzi signs a contract at the start of the TNM Super League second round, they would have finally reached a common understanding on the matter.

“We have already agreed on personal terms, but we just need a meeting to clarify on this issue. We will do that probably by this weekend. It is a small matter,” Kalonga said.

  1. Since you do not have a coach, what is wrong with him using his experience to help your team as you discuss the matter? The problem with football in Malawi is thatit is run by people who are in positions because they love football and not because they know sport administration or have gone through any such courses. Terrible decision making the way they do in their bedrooms.
