Silver Strikers not only won their third Super League title on Tuesday, but also closed in on Big Bullets’ record of 10 wins.

The Bankers are just two titles shy of Bullets’ achievement since the league’s inception in 1986.

However, Silver chairperson McDonald Mafuta-Mwale said their focus is not to catch-up with Bullets or overtake them.

“We are not chasing Bullets’ record, we are coming closer, but that is not our intention.

“It is a good feeling to win the national league three times in a row. It was not easy at all. Even half-way the contest, we were not being tipped as favourites, but dzanja likalemba, lalemba.

“We have nothing to prove that we are the best. Winning the title four times in five years is no mean achievement at all. I can only thank my players, technical team, supporters and, above all, the sponsors for the success,” said Mafuta-Mwale.

Asked what has been the secret behind his team’s good run in the league, Mafuta-Mwale said: “Sound planning coupled with commitment from all the stakeholders as well as unwavering support from our sponsors.”

He said he felt like flying on Tuesday after clinching the championship.

Diminutive forward Green Harawa, who was at the hub of the Bankers’ resurgence in the second-round, said commitment and good team spirit was behind their success.

“Even when we were down, we held on to our nerve and as a family we all had the belief and never gave up hope,” said Harawa who scored the second goal in the final match as the Bankers saw off the Nomads 2-1.

Silver first won the flagship league championship in 1993, 1994, 1996, 2008, 2009-2010, 2011-2012, 2012-2013 and 2013-14.
