TNM Super League defending champions Silver Strikers have, despite grinding out a 1-0 win over Kamuzu Barracks FC (KB) on Wednesday, bemoaned the absence of their regular players.

Silver contribute to the Under-20 team, which hosts the Democratic Republic of Congo this Saturday, hot striker Chawanangwa Kawonga whereas Frank Banda, Green Harawa, Ndaziona Chatsalira, Rodrick Gonani and Young Chimodzi Junior are regular Flames members.

In a post-match interview with Radio 2, Silver coach Stein Chirwa said these players’ pre-occupation with the national teams was affecting their coordination.

“We have won, but our problem in the past few weeks is that half the squad is with the national teams and we have not trained together,” Chirwa said.

Meanwhile, Mafco reportedly accuse Silver of fielding an ineligible player, striker Harawa, claiming he is supposed to be serving yellow cards suspension. The Bankers, who have slashed their negative points tally to just two points, dispute this.

In the match monitored on Radio 2 FM, Silver snatched maximum points through KB defender Pempho Kansichi’s second minute own goal.

Silver have won two and drawn once and lie bottom with negative two points whereas Blue Eagles lead the 15-member table on 12 points from four games.
