Silver coach reacts to fans’ calls

Silver Strikers FC coach Stein Chirwa has said he is ready to bow out if some sections of the club feel he is not performing according to expectations.

The Bankers’ mentor was responding to chants of “coach achoke! coach achoke!” by some fans on Sunday at Nankhaka Stadium in Lilongwe during their game against Fisd Wizards (formerly Surestream FC).

The fans broke into the chant after their team’s poor showing against the rookies who came from behind to force a one-all draw.

“If some people feel I am not doing a good job and then the employer says I should go, I will have no choice but to respect their decision and life goes on,” said Chirwa, sounding ice-cool.

The Bankers, who won three successive league titles before they were dethroned by Big Bullets last season, have finished the first-round on an unenviable eighth position with 20 points.

The club’s acting general secretary Fred Kalonga yesterday admitted that the club has lost its way.

He was, however, quick to point out that they do not believe that the coaches are the problem.

“We apologise to our supporters, for the team’s poor showing. As supporters, they expect the team to be doing well and we understand their position. They do not want the coaches because of the way we are playing coupled with poor results

“However, we feel the problem that we have is that we do not have depth in quality; hence, the decision to invade the transfer market when it re-opens,” said Kalonga.

He added: “In the past we have removed coaches, but this time around, I do not think that would be the solution.”

Kalonga also said he had called for an emergency executive committee meeting which was scheduled for last evening.

Silver have played 14 league games out of which they have won six, lost six and drawn twice.
