Silver Strikers FC will in two weeks go to polls to elect a new executive committee to lead the team for the next two years.

General secretary Owen Munthali on Tuesday said they have come up with 14th or 21st April as tentative dates for the elections.

Munthali could, however, not comment on who is eligible to contest in the elections.

“Details as to who can apply to contest in the elections will be known by the end of the week,” he said.

Normally, there are restrictions for certain positions such as that of chairperson which has to be contested by officials who are employees of the Reserve Bank of Malawi, the team’s sponsors.

Outgoing chairperson McDonald Mafuta Mwale and his deputy Daudi Mtanthiko have indicated they will not contest.

Mtanthiko has just been elected in the Southern Region Football Committee.

He said the new executive will have a tough task to take Silver to greater heights after the outgoing committee managed to win Super League championship back-to-back.

“They will have to ensure we continue dominating the league and, of course, go beyond us and win cups. We have not won a cup since lifting the 2007 Standard Bank Cup. We need to end that drought,” said Mtanthiko.
