Silver end Mafco unbeaten record

Silver Strikers on Saturday ended Mafco’s unbeaten run in the TNM Super League with a 2-1 win at Chitowe Stadium in Nkhotakota.

That triumph, courtesy of Patrick Macheso and Stain Davie goals, earned the Central Bankers a top spot in the log table.

Mtetemera: It was a tough game

Silver tie with Mafco on 13 points, but the Malawi Defence Force outfit are second because of an inferior goal aggregate.

The Central Region giants have won four games drawn oce and lost two while Mafco have won three games, drawn four and lost one.

In an interview after the game, Silver assistant coach McDonald Mtetemera said they won because their charges played as advised.

“Of course it was a tough game as Mafco wanted to destabilise our system in the first 10 minutes of the game, but we overcame them to win,” he said.

On the other hand, Mafco coach Temwa Msuku said all is not lost and they will fight to recover in their next assignment.

“We tried to get a win, but it did not work. Our opponents were just too good. We have accepted the defeat and that is part of the game,” he said.

In another game, Moyale Barracks registered their first win of the season after defeating Blue Eagles 1-0 through a Gastin Simkonda goal.

Civil Service United piled more misery on Chitipa United with a 2-1 victory after Muhammad Sulumba and Blessings Tembo scored at Karonga Stadium while Muhammad Biyasoni scored for the hosts.

With the victory, Civo have moved to third on the table with 11 points from five games. They are unbeaten with three wins and two draws.

Rookies Ekwendeni Hammers showed sign of resilience in the top-light league after their 3-2 win over Mighty Tigers at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre.

Blessings Singini, Sammy Phiri and former Be Forward Wanderers sensational player Omegadinho  Mhone scored for the Hammers while Fatsani Chilikumtima and Kondwani Chilembwe scored for Tigers.

Kamuzu Barracks drew 2-2 against Ntopwa FC at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.
