Silver Strikers have kept faith in coach Stain Chirwa whose contract has been extended by another year after guiding the Bankers to a third successive TNM Super League title.

The club’s chairperson McDonald Mafuta-Mwale said few people gave Chirwa a chance to turn around the fortunes after a disappointing first-round which they finished a distant seventh.

“Based on his performance, we had to offer him another contract.

“I am sure any supporter who doubted our decision to remove the previous panel has another thought and we can only be proved to have made the right decision,” said Mafuta-Mwale.

He said when a coach performs the way Stain did, they have every reason to keep him.

The Bankers’ boss said Chirwa, who had no assistant, has been given the mandate to look for a suitable deputy.

“We want him to choose who he wants to work with because sometimes it becomes a problem when you impose an assistant coach,” he said.

Mafuta-Mwale said team manager Francis ‘Falcao’ Songo, who was hired alongside Chirwa, will also be maintained in that position, so too his deputy Itaye Nundwe.

Chirwa replaced Franco Ndawa, who was fired together with his backroom staff that included Hellings Mwakasungula and Nundwe as his deputies and S’busiso Padambo as team manager. Nundwe was later retained as assistant team manager.
