Mighty Wanderers’ good run in the TNM Super League was halted in Lilongwe when the team lost their fixtures against Civo and rookies Kamuzu Barracks (KB) on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

They lost 3-2 to Civo United and 1-0 to Kamuzu Barracks.

Despite the losses, Wanderers coach Franco Ndawa backed his team’s performance. He described the losses as normal.

“It is not like they (players) played badly. We were just unfortunate. My team did all they could, but we were unlucky not to score. I see nothing wrong with this team,” said Ndawa.

The Nomads, who went into the weekend topping the league have now dropped to third position. It is now Silver Strikers, who whipped Kabwafu 3-0 on Sunday, who are at the top with 18 points, just like Civo. Nomads have 17 points.

Featuring all their stars, including rejuvenated playmaker Joseph Kamwendo, Wanderers had chances in both games, but wastefulness of their strikers Diverson Chilemba and Innocent Dzimbiri cost them the six points.

Silver had it easy against Kabwafu after goals from Blessings Tembo, Rodrick Gonani and Green Harawa.

They are not only topping the chart but have also scored the most goals, 17. Gonani now has scored five goals, one behind leading goalscorer Vincent Chinthenga of Bvumbwe.

“There is stiff competition for the first team and that is why everyone is working hard to protect his position. I believe now it will be tough for any team to stop us,” said a relieved Silver coach Thom Mkorongo.
