Silver duo of defenders Chisomo Mpachika and Yinusa Sheriff will be available for the crucial Super League tie against leaders Be Forward Wanderers at Bingu National Stadium this Sunday.

The match will decide who wins the first round as the two clubs are the only ones with that chance.

According to the Bankers’ team manager Francis Songo, another defender Mike Roberts, who suffered a hip injury during the match against Civil Sporting Club a fortnight ago, has recovered in time for the match.

Sheriff has served his suspension

However, defender Herbert Wayekha is out after suffering an ankle injury during the Lilongwe derby.

“Chisomo is back after a long layoff while Sheriff has served his suspension as he missed the civil match after accumulating two yellow cards. But the bad news is that Herbert won’t be available for selection,” Songo said in an interview yesterday.

Nigerian Sheriff has been part of the Silver’s backbone whose no nonsense defending has helped the team to be unbeaten in the first round league campaign.

Songo described the defenders return as good for the club as it will promote competition.

“In their absence, the team was still doing fine. However, the recovery of Mpachika and Roberts and the return of Sheriff will energise competition for the back four places,” he said.

With a game to play before the first round wraps up, Wanderers currently sit at the top with 34 points while Silver are on second with 32 points. Whoever finishes top in the first round will pocket K300 000.

On their part, Wanderers team manager Steve Madeira said apart from long absentees Ishmael Thindwa and Amos Bello and suspended midfielder Alfred Manyozo, they do not have other injuries. n
