Silver peg striker Katinji at K13.5m

Silver Strikers are demanding K13.5 million transfer fee for their forward Binwell Katinji who has passed trials at newly-promoted South Africa Premier Soccer League (PSL) outfit Highlands Park.

However, the PSL side have instead offered K7 million, saying Silver’s transfer fee is on the higher side, according to broker of the deal Prince Jere of Touchline Sports Management Agency.

On the move: Katinji (L) has passed trials at Highlands

“The boy has passed the trials after he impressed during the games which he was featured. But the stumbling block is that Highlands Park are offering to pay K7 million while Silver wants K13.5 million. Of course, I also feel that the demand by Silver Strikers is on the higher side. All in all, discussions are still on,” he said.

Silver general secretary Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda confirmed to have pegged the player at K13.5 million transfer fee.

“We feel that is a fair figure for a player of that calibre,” he said.

Meanwhile, Katinji who has been offered a two-year contract, said he is happy to have passed the trials and is looking forward to start new life in the Rainbow Nation.

“I am happy to have impressed during my trials in the short period I have been here. It is my plea that the two teams will reach an agreement so that I should start a new life I was waiting for in my football career,” he said.

Highlands Park, whose base is Balfour Park Stadium, also invited Silver winger Duncan Nyoni for trials last year but he did not make it.

Previously, the club also offered Nyasa Big Bullets defender Miracle Gabeya a contract, but the deal did not materialise following disagreements between the two clubs over a transfer fee.
