Silver strikers members votting apr231 | The Nation Online Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM), sponsors of Silver Strikers FC, have increased sponsorship for the club for the 2013 season by over 25 percent, from K35 million (about $87 500) to K45 million (about $112 500).

Silver’s board chairperson Kelvin M’mangisa announced the sponsorship increment on Sunday during the club’s elections at Silver Stadium.

“We are grateful with the increment. If we are to look at what our sponsors offer us, we can say they sponsor the club with over K45 million. They also gave us the ground which we are using and the bus,” said M’mangisa.

He appealed to the team to win trophies and urged supporters to observe discipline, saying those are some of the best ways of paying back to the sponsors.

“We do not want the name of the sponsors to be associated with acts of indiscipline on the radios and in the newspapers as has been the case recently,” he said.

M’mangisa also disclosed that the sponsors have assured the team’s participation in the CAF Club Championship if the team can be invited to participate.

Also confirming the increase in sponsorship, the club’s chairperson, Dr McDonald Mafuta-Mwale, said the ball is in the club’s court to protect the sponsorship.

During the elections, Mafuta-Mwale and Oscar Mabulekesi went unopposed as chairperson and vice-chairperson respectively while Mike Tembo was elected general secretary, taking over from Owen Munthali.

The post of vice-general secretary went to Madalitso Mazombwe, who beat Alex Major with 123 votes against 90 votes. Fred Kalonga went in as treasurer, with Edwin Ndege as his deputy.

Chatheka Mangazi, Horace Mkanda, Alex Wazili and Chrispin Sinsamala were elected executive members.

For supporters committee, Paul Zoyipa was voted chairperson. He will be assisted by Joseph Kalanzi Mbewe. Harvey Mkumbira and Bulawayo Manganya were voted in as GS and vice-GS respectively.

The new treasurer for the supporters committee is Chikumbutso Kachikho, whose deputy is Yona Mkandawire.
