Silver, Sulom fight over league prize

TNM Super League runners-up Silver Strikers have accused Sulom of withholding K3.5 million TNM prize money for this season and has since called for the release of the money.

The call was made on Friday during a press conference the club held at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe.

“We are surprised that K3.5 million was withheld by Sulom when remitting our prize money for this season. This is unfair because we were not given reasons. We have since communicated our displeasure to Sulom on this issue,” said the Club’s chief executive officer Thoko Chimbali.

But Sulom president TiyaSomba Bandahas dismissed the accusations, saying it is not a reflection of the truth.

He said: “These are lies.  The prize money was deposited in their account long time ago.  K4.8 million was deposited in their account. We deducted K2 million from the K4.8 million debt they have with Sulom. They think first round winners get K1 million when it’s K300 000.

“We already communicated the reasons for the deductions to Mr. Chimbali and the communication has been made available to you.”

But Chimbali has blamed Sulom for rushing to deduct the money before settling grievances raised by his club.

“I must state here that Sulom has not responded to the grievances we have been raising. It is unfair.  We presented our case to Sulom, but they never responded. But when it comes to Blantyre teams Sulom is quick to respond and make a ruling. It is unfair,” he said.

Chimbali has since called on Sulom to improve on communication with all clubs equally and not take sides.

Sulom president maintained his position that they are innocent of the accusations and treat all clubs equally.
