Silver Strikers will be targeting victory over TN Stars at Silver Stadium this afternoon, an achievement that will propel them from sixth to second on the TNM  Super League table.

The Bankers have 10 points and lie sixth having played five games, two less than leaders Nyasa Big Bullets.

They are going into the match boosted by their progression into the Airtel Top 8 semi-finals after beating their capital city rivals Civil Sporting Club whom they could dislodge on second position.

Mwase: Our target is to win every game

In an interview yesterday,  the Bankers team manager Francis Songo said they are targeting victory in a bid to catch up with the other title contenders.

“We can’t be dropping points now because we will find it difficult to catch up later.  This is an important game as it offers us a chance to close the gap with leaders,” he said.

Silver will be without goalkeeper Brighton Munthali and midfielder Levison Maganizo who are with the national team at the Cosafa Challenge Cup in South Africa.

To add to those absentees,  the title favourites will also miss the services of midfielder-cum-striker Newman Mwamsamale, who sustained an injury during the match against Silver on Sunday.

“Newman is not available because he has not recovered. It’s a blow because we already have two players out with the national team.  However,  with the squad we have, we believe we are capable of winning this match,” he said.

Newcomers TN Stars have made a remarkable start to the campaign.  They are currently 12th with seven points from seven points.

Their coach Meke Mwase says their target is to win every game, regardless of its magnitude.

“We will fight for points in every game. Silver is one of the best teams but we will give our best to win,” he said.

A win for the Kasungu-based Stars would propel them to seventh position in the 16 member league. n
