Binwell Katinji yesterday inspired Silver Strikers to thump MTV Max Bullets 4-0 at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe yesterday.

The win saw the Bankers move up two places to second position.

Katinji netted a brace while Lucky Malata and man-of-the moment Duncan Nyoni claimed a goal each in a one-sided contest that sunk Bullets deeper into the relegation mire.

Silver, with a match in hand, have now amassed 32 points from 16 games, cutting the gap with leaders Blue Eagles to just two.

If the Bankers wanted a team to vent their anger on after losing the Carlsberg Cup final, they found one here; they were utterly dominant and could have netted more if they were not casual after scoring their fourth goal.

Max Bullets’ undoing was their failure to deal with aerial threats as three of the goals were conceded from corner kicks.

Katinji opened the flood gates on 27th minute,  heading home a corner kick and three minutes later, Lucky Malata doubled the lead from another set-piece.

After recess It took just five minutes for Silver to net their third.

Duncan Nyoni’s low shot, which bounced off Bullets’ player, beat helpless goalkeeper Maxwell Dzowa.

There was still time for Katinji to claim his second pummelling the ball home after Bullets failed to clear a corner kick.

Bullets officials refused to grant interviews while Silver coach Lovemore Fazili said the result was a morale booster ahead of their match against leaders Blue Eagles this weekend.

At Zomba Community Centre ground, Be Forward Wanderers played out a one-all draw.

It was a match which saw the Nomads comeback midfielder Joseph Kamwendo and Peter Wadabwa turning on a vintage display.

After a goalless first half, the two teams approached the second half with renewed purpose and Jaffalie Chande put the Nomads ahead in the 72nd minute when he pounced on a defensive lapse to slot the ball over the advancing Lions’ goalkeeper Clement Mlomba.

Lions pulled level through Innocent Bokosi from the penalty spot after referee Ben Chongwa adjudged Harry Nyirenda to have handled the ball inside the goal area.
