Simama League champs to get K2m

The champions of the 2018 Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) Simama Premier League will receive K2 million, up from K1.5 million.

The increased prizes were announced during the league’s annual general meeting (AGM) held in Mzuzu on Friday following the coming in of Superior & Flora Cooking Oil as co-sponsors

The league is now sponsored to the tune of K7 million with K5 million from Bishop Abraham Simama while Superior & Flora Cooking Oil have pumped in an additional K2 million.

NRFA general secretary Masiya Nyasulu also announced that apart from the champions, the other top three teams will be eligible for prizes in the coming season.

He said runners-up will receive K1 million while the third-placed team will get K500 000. The fourth-placed team will receive K300 000.

“We will also have individual prizes and most disciplined team award,” Nyasulu said.

A total of 18 teams are expected to take part in the league this season. Last season the league had 16 teams.

Chilumba Barracks FC, who were  the runners-up last season, have said they are expecting tough competition following the increase in  prizes.

Team manager Aubrey Khonde said: “It is good that we have an improved package and we are fireworks.”

The league is set to kick off on April 21.
