Newly ordained Mozambique Goalkeeper of the Year, Simplex Nthala, has rejoined Maputo’s Liga Maculmana on a year-long contract from Vilankulo FC.

The Flames first-choice, who confirmed the development on Wednesday, returns to Maculmana after dumping them for Vilankulo last season following fallout with the previous coach.

“There is a new coach who asked for my return following my exploits with Vilankulo. My contract at Vilankulo ended on October 31 2012. There were many other potential suitors,” said the ex-Mighty Wanderers custodian in a telephone interview.

Nthala reunites with compatriot Zicco Mkanda who played as a lone striker on Sunday when Maculmana beat Costa de Sol 1-0 to clinch Mozambique Cup.

Mkanda on Wednesday confirmed that Nthala was in their camp with the prospect of playing in CAF Champions League next season as an extra motivation for his return.

“I played in the entire game. I was obviously excited to lift the cup and earn 100 000 meticais, which is an equivalent of $4 000 each player,” said Mkanda.

In a telephone interview yesterday, Maculmana official, Mahomed Seedat, confirmed on Wednesday about Nthala’s signing, praising him as a great goalkeeper who has been voted the best.

Other Malawian players in Mozambique include Emmanuel Chipatala, Sankhani Nyirenda, Gerald Nkungula and Louis Minjale. They hardly earn Flames call-up, Early this year, Mkanda once played as a substitute.
