South Africa-based Malawian female boxer Ellen ‘The Tigress’ Simwaka is in Scotland for Saturday night’s Commonwealth bantamweight title bout against Kristen Fraser.

Simwaka arrived in Arbedeen on Saturday with his manager Stephen Castle ahead of the 10-round bout  to be staged at the DoubleTree by Hilton Aberdeen Treetops Hotel.

“I have now slowed down on my workout and I am doing the final touches. My focus has been on body and stomach punches as well as endurance,” she said in an interview yesterday.

She, however, said the chilly conditions in the United Kingdom (UK) have, somehow,  affected her preparations “because I cannot go for roadwork and, instead, I am doing it on treadmill in the gym. But it is not a big deal”.

Simwaka, 22,  who is the reigning international bantamweight champion, boasts seven wins, (five knockouts), four losses (one KO) and a draw.

She was quoted by the Evening Express of UK as having said she aims at ending Fraser’s Commonwealth title dream in front of her home fans.

“I want to tell Kristen Fraser that I am coming for her in Aberdeen.

“That Commonwealth title belt is mine. They are just keeping it for me until I win it in Scotland,” she was quoted as saying.

BBC recently reported that Fraser will be the first Scottish female boxer to compete for the Commonwealth bantamweight title and she was quoted as having said: “It’s great to be at the forefront—the one opening up the door for others.

Fraser, 30, has won all her five fights (including one KO) according to boxrec.com. The two were scheduled to go for an unofficial weigh-in later yesterday.n
