South Africa-based Malawian female boxer Ellen ‘The Tigress’ Simwaka has secured a World Boxing Association lightweight inter-continental title bout against Swedish Lucy Wildheart.

In an interview yesterday, Simwaka said the bout will be held in Accra, Ghana on March 27.

Simwaka: I have intensified my preparations

“I am very excited to have secured a title fight and I have stepped up my preparations,” she said.

Simwaka said her preparations include watching video clips of her prospective opponent who turns 28 next month.

“I have an idea of what sort of boxer she is, especially her tactics, strengths and weaknesses and I am working on how I can counter that,” she said.

Simwaka, who last fought in October 2020 when she knocked out South African Mellisa Miller, has a record of eight wins (five knockouts), five losses (two knockouts) and two draws.

Her opponent boasts six wins, including a knockout, and one loss.

Simwaka came into the limelight when she won the World Boxing Federation international bantamweight title after beating South African Simangele Hadebe in 2017.

Thereafter, she unsuccessfully challenged highly-rated Scottish boxer Kristen Fraser for the Commonwealth bantamweight title.

Simwaka surrendered in the sixth of their scheduled 10-round bout in Aberden.
