Six local lady golfers are expected to take part in the 2016 Zimbabwe Ladies Golf Union Championship this weekend at Brooke Golf Club in Harare.
According to Ladies Golf Union of Malawi (LGUoM), vice-president, Connie Muguvu-Karuku, the three-day tournament will tee-off on Friday and will run up to Sunday.
Apart from Muguvu-Karuku herself, others are Gudrun Egilsdottir, Elizabeth Tench, Hariet Zelda Mariani, Shelon Marques and Catherine Matura. They are scheduled to depart tomorrow.
Four of the golfers—Muguvu-Karuku, Mariani, Marques and Matura—are from Blantyre Sports Club (BSC) while Egilsdottir and Tench are from Lilongwe Golf Club (LGC).
“These ladies voluntarily registered themselves to participate in this prestigious golf event for ladies in Southern Africa .Their participation is self–sponsored and we are proud to have local ladies who are keen to gain international exposure in golf,” she said.
“One of the objectives of our union is to develop upcoming lady golfers by helping them understand the game. This is a great opportunity for us to mix with other ladies in the region and learn more about the game. Apart from that, the participation in the tournament will assist in confidence-building.”
The tournament has been divided into four categories—Championship, A, B, and C Divisions, Muguvu-Karuku will compete in the A Division, Egilsdottir, Tench and Mariani will take part in the B Division while Marques and Matura will compete in the C Division.
