Skeffa, Kaka fall out

Listen to this article

Music promoters in Mzuzu have expressed disappointment over musician Kaka’s no show in the Northern Region last weekend.

Born Kanthu Kalinda, Kaka has been a keyboardist and vocalist with Skeffa Chimoto’s Real Sounds Band since mid-last year after dumping Lucius Banda’s Zembani Band.

However, The Nation understands that the musician has missed three performances with the band since Thursday last week. And no explanation has been given to fans and promoters for his absence.

His no-show angered fans: Kaka

During one of the shows in Mzuzu on Saturday, Kaka was present, but sources say he was stopped from performing allegedly due to disagreements with Skeffa over payment issues.

This development did not go down well with Squirrels Promotions managing director Tobias Keliophas who expressed his disappointment with Kaka’s no-show.

“This does not give a good reputation to us as promoters. Some people come to shows for a particular artist. And for such an artist not to perform gives a bad reputation.

“Whatever problem is there between Skeffa and Kaka should not affect us at all. I was disappointed that he didn’t perform although we had him on the lineup,” he said.

In an interview, both Skeffa and Kaka refused to comment on the issue.

Skeffa, however, digressed to say “people should judge me by my music rather than hearsay”.  n
