Skippers, DD Sunshine in CR Presidential finals

Skippers FC and DD Sunshine have qualified for the Central Region Presidential Women Football Cup finals after beating Kauma Stars and Lilongwe (LL) Stars on Sunday respectively.

Skippers FC clobbered Kauma Stars 14-0 while DD Sunshine thumped LL Stars 3-0 in the semi-finals at Lilongwe Community ground.

Skippers’ striker Linda Kasenda, who is the leading goalscorer, netted seven goals to take her tally to 15 goals.

Bridge Mkuzilire and Omega Kapulukila registered a hat-trick each while Tifa Malunjika scored a goal to aid the victory. At half time they led 8-0.

Funny Mwale, Sabina Thom and Orama Massa were on target for DD Sunshine.

Mwale, who is chasing Kasenda for the Golden Boot Award, has now scored nine goals.

Skippers and Sunshine met in the finals of the FAM/Fifa Cup and the latter won  1-0 to halt Skippers’ dominance.

Skippers coach Yasin Zidana said he is looking forward to avenge the defeat and restore their lost glory.

His Sunshine counterpart Andrew ‘Aluki’ Chikhosi  said they are not worried with the prospect of facing their capital city rivals.

According to Central Region Women Football Committee treasurer Mary Mphambu, the finals will be played on June 11 at a venue to be communicated later. n
