Small and Medium Enterprises Development Institute (Smedi) has engaged business people to equip employees in the Northern Region with business skills.
Smedi business information specialist (North) Harvey Chiwaya said from this year they will train 200 employees so that they prepare for a life after retirement.
He said: “Most employees do not think about business and when they retire, life becomes a challenge for them.
“This is the first training. We plan to reach 200 employees who are about to retire so that they have a retirement plan.”
RH Associates Consulting managing partner and lead consultant Harrison Kalua challenged employees to come up with businesses that will benefit them and future generations.
“Whether you like it or not, you will not work forever. So, you need to learn business skills,” he said.
Another consultant, Telita Chitsulo, advised those venturing into business to learn to manage stress, saying some challenges in business are life-threatening.
